the handwash-generation…

A mentor once told me that the greatest privilege in life is to be able to fall asleep the moment you reach the bed… to be able to laugh aloud without wondering about the reactions…and to be able to eat anywhere, without worrying for the stomach-infection…!

The other day, I went to deliver a seminar at an institution in the outskirts of another city (so now you can imagine that it was placed pretty remotely)… Before the session, the guys over there served a snack, with toppings of every possible color and smell… A sensuous urge went through my mind to have it all, but I couldn’t…

…because by the looks of it, it seemed to defy every rule of hygiene possible on this earth!

Damn hygiene! We never thought about it when we were toddlers… first splashing the beans all over the tiles and then eating them with the flavor of all the dust mixed in them…

…or for that matter, we never had to think about it when as kids we would go to our Maternal Uncle’s town and would have a Kulfi made of tap water, placed in a rusted cone, inside an age-old pot, taken out by the dirty hand of that Kulfi wala who did not bathe…

Is it so…that the world took care of us when we trusted it!

And now…when we don’t trust it, it keeps proving us right!

…Or is it just a case of weakening immune-system… and I am reading too much into it!
