The ‘Angry Young Man’!

“Your most profound answers are born out of most fundamental questions…”

………………………

Probably, when you care more…you get angry fast! At least that’s how I try to justify my being ‘easily angry’ in the early phase of my life – a product of my extraordinary sensitivity, tendency to get attached quickly and a bent to expect a lot!

As time passed and I became too old to be loved unconditionally, I realized that now being accepted depends less on ‘who I am’ and more onhow I am towards people’. As a result, I saved my anger to be surfaced only in front of the unfortunate few who I was sure would not leave me even if they dislike me sometimes.

But the other day…something happened.

The other day when someone used piercing words to me unreasonably…after a long time, I felt a sudden upsurge inside – raising heartbeats, tightening jaw, sweating fists, and an intense desire to react vehemently! Yet what followed it was far more significant

I don’t know how; but in the midst of all that chaos, a question emerged from inside “Why am I getting angry?” followed by “And why is she being so mean?”! And in a flash it all occurred to me in all its complexities. I could see where that person was coming from – how her own circumstances beget her irritability…and why her behavior had more to do with that backdrop and…less with me.

Well! I don’t expect myself to be this sane or saintly always; but in such moments when you surprise your petty self… you earn a chunk of that invaluable self-esteem.

………………………

Once an ‘Angry Young Man’; in those moments as I witnessed my anger coming down, I guess I either became less of young or ……more of a Man!
