Years back, during initial days of my work-life, I travelled to a small place pretty faraway…! To go to the institution where my seminar was booked, I and one of my colleagues even had to take lift in a truck!
I remember asking the driver all sorts of silly questions like “Don’t you get bored?”, “Why do you write these funny lines behind the truck?”, “Who taught you how to cook?” etc.! But I also asked a question whose answer made indelible impression on my approach to life…
When I asked him “I have observed that truck drivers normally give side to other vehicles pretty willingly. Why?”, he almost spontaneously said “Sir! Jo lambe safar pe nikalte hain, wo chhoti daud mein nahin padte”!…
Many of us live life as if it is a race and we have to reach somewhere… beyond others…before others! And this tendency is born out of one fixed-notion of success that the society had created in our minds during our formative years! Society positioned ‘success’ as a comparative term while in truth it is a standalone concept…and it is everyone’s birth-right to decide one’s own definition for it!
Well! In English, ‘Good’ is a positive word, ‘Better’ its comparative form and ‘Best’ its superlative! … When we had not invented language, life didn’t have any positives, comparatives & superlatives; back then ‘Better’ was not a word…it was a way of living! We didn’t judge, compare or certify, we simply tried ‘more and different’……Today, we know it as Evolution!
Let’s not succeed… Let’s ‘Evolve’!
